I have now, therefore, to inform your Lordship that on the I4th August I signed a Commission at the instance of my responsible advisers, and by virtue of the powers vested in the Governor General by the Canadian Act of the 31 Vic. , Cap. 38, to the Honorable Judge Day, the Honorable Judge Polette and Judge Gowan, authorizing them to inquire into the various matters connected with the issue of the Pacific Railway Charter. A copy of this Commission I have the honor to append. On referring to it, your Lordship will observe that the purview of the Com- mission is very wide and inquisitorial, and that there is nothing to restrict its recep- tion of anything that may appear to deserve the name of evidence. prev     next
